1 of 52

When I made my list of goals, one of them was to update my blog weekly for a year. So, without any further ado, here is post 1 of 52.

Lately, most of my spare time has been spent working on wedding plans. They all seem to coming along really well. I have sent out the invites, and plan on starting to make the favours in the next week or so. I still have some of the supplies to buy for those.

I continue to play Buzztime Trivia as often as I can. Since Tuesday was a holiday, I didn't have to work and was able to go play Showdown, which I don't get to do very often. We were doing quite well, and had a good score going into the final round. The category was "Orchestral Works." Most of the group was saying that they didn't like the category. I told them that I liked the category, but wasn't going to make any promises that I would get the answer. The question was, "In Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, what instrument is used to represent the wolf?" I was so sure of my answer, and one of the other players agreed with me. Turned out we were wrong. I felt so bad. Anyone know the answer???

I think that's about all that is new in my world. I haven't completed any of my goals yet, but when I do, I will cross them out and maybe post an update on how it went.

101 in 1001

I got this idea from another blog that I stumbled across, and thought that it was a pretty cool idea.

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.

2. Stay Focused. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.

3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.

4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.

5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

I'm going to post my goals at the side, and update them as I complete them.

Update

Once again, it's been quite a while since I've posted anything.

On August 21, Grant and I were involved in a car accident here in Winnipeg. I was driving in an unfamiliar area of the city, and was trying to figure out where I was, and by the time I saw the red light, I was already in the intersection. Unfortunately, there was a semi coming through the intersection and he broadsided the car.

We were both taken to Health Science Center by ambulance. Grant had two fractured ribs and a collapsed lung, and was kept overnight for observation and released on the Friday. I have a small fracture in my left hip, and compression fractures on two of my vetebrae (these may not be new though). I also got a nasty bruise from the seatbelt, but that healed very quickly. I was admitted to hospital and was fitted for a brace. I was in for a total of 8 nights before I got the brace and was allowed to go home.

It's been just almost 3 weeks since the car accident and Grant went back to work on Monday. He still gets little twinges of pain if he moves the wrong way, but is recovering really well.

I'm off work until I'm out of the brace. It's not easy sitting at home, not being allowed to do much (no heavy lifting, bending). I am working on little details of the wedding, but I'm not enjoying being housebound.

I tried to add some pictures, but I can't seem to get them to upload right now.

Food, Glorious Food

I'm not refering to Oliver, and nobody was begging for more.

Tonight, everyone in head office was invited to dine at Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse with the General Manager's from the hotels, who were on their way to Gimli for the annual GM conference.

I've never gone to Ichiban before, and was it ever a treat.

Our meal started out with Vegetable soup, and a cucumber salad. Very delicious. We were given the option of having Chicken Livers for an appetizer. I decided to be brave and try them. They weren't that bad.

Next the chef (who cooks right at the table), mixed up a batch of fried rice, after doing the "Japanese Egg Roll". I almost ended up wearing one of the eggs.

While we were eating the fried rice, the chef cooked up the main course of shrimp, chicken and steak. It was very delicious.

We were all stuffed, and some of us were more stuffed than others.

Sorry, there are no pictures, but I didn't think to borrow Charlotte's camera for the evening.

Church Picinic

Yesterday, Grant and I headed out to the annual church picinic. We had lots of fun. There were games, food, more games, and fireworks. It was also a great chance to visit with people that you don't really get a chance to visit with on Sundays. For the games, we were in groups of 4, and Grant and I were lucky to be paired up with Ray and Lisa. They are a wonderful couple, and a great example to us. The games were lots of fun, and spawned many laughs among the groups.

Long Overdue Update

I've been told by a few people that I need to update this blog. I guess they are right.

A lot has happened in my life since my last post.

I met a wonderful man, Grant, and am now engaged to him, with a wedding date of January 24, 2009. I was introduced to him by a coworker who knew him, and the rest as they say is history. He works as a security guard here in Winnipeg, and enjoys his job.

Wedding plans are coming along slowly but surely. I'm planning on making my own invitations, programs and wedding favors, so the coming months could end up being very crafty (and I'm not a crafty person).

I'm still working at the same job and still enjoy going to work everyday.
