Once again, it's been quite a while since I've posted anything.
On August 21, Grant and I were involved in a car accident here in Winnipeg. I was driving in an unfamiliar area of the city, and was trying to figure out where I was, and by the time I saw the red light, I was already in the intersection. Unfortunately, there was a semi coming through the intersection and he broadsided the car.
We were both taken to Health Science Center by ambulance. Grant had two fractured ribs and a collapsed lung, and was kept overnight for observation and released on the Friday. I have a small fracture in my left hip, and compression fractures on two of my vetebrae (these may not be new though). I also got a nasty bruise from the seatbelt, but that healed very quickly. I was admitted to hospital and was fitted for a brace. I was in for a total of 8 nights before I got the brace and was allowed to go home.
It's been just almost 3 weeks since the car accident and Grant went back to work on Monday. He still gets little twinges of pain if he moves the wrong way, but is recovering really well.
I'm off work until I'm out of the brace. It's not easy sitting at home, not being allowed to do much (no heavy lifting, bending). I am working on little details of the wedding, but I'm not enjoying being housebound.
I tried to add some pictures, but I can't seem to get them to upload right now.

Food, Glorious Food
I'm not refering to Oliver, and nobody was begging for more.
Tonight, everyone in head office was invited to dine at Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse with the General Manager's from the hotels, who were on their way to Gimli for the annual GM conference.
I've never gone to Ichiban before, and was it ever a treat.
Our meal started out with Vegetable soup, and a cucumber salad. Very delicious. We were given the option of having Chicken Livers for an appetizer. I decided to be brave and try them. They weren't that bad.
Next the chef (who cooks right at the table), mixed up a batch of fried rice, after doing the "Japanese Egg Roll". I almost ended up wearing one of the eggs.
While we were eating the fried rice, the chef cooked up the main course of shrimp, chicken and steak. It was very delicious.
We were all stuffed, and some of us were more stuffed than others.
Sorry, there are no pictures, but I didn't think to borrow Charlotte's camera for the evening.

Church Picinic
Yesterday, Grant and I headed out to the annual church picinic. We had lots of fun. There were games, food, more games, and fireworks. It was also a great chance to visit with people that you don't really get a chance to visit with on Sundays. For the games, we were in groups of 4, and Grant and I were lucky to be paired up with Ray and Lisa. They are a wonderful couple, and a great example to us. The games were lots of fun, and spawned many laughs among the groups.

Long Overdue Update

I've been told by a few people that I need to update this blog. I guess they are right.
A lot has happened in my life since my last post.
I met a wonderful man, Grant, and am now engaged to him, with a wedding date of January 24, 2009. I was introduced to him by a coworker who knew him, and the rest as they say is history. He works as a security guard here in Winnipeg, and enjoys his job.
Wedding plans are coming along slowly but surely. I'm planning on making my own invitations, programs and wedding favors, so the coming months could end up being very crafty (and I'm not a crafty person).
I'm still working at the same job and still enjoy going to work everyday.

Big
Tonight I was watching television, and the movie "Big" was on. This movie has one my favorite scenes. This is the infamous scene where Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia are walking through FAO Schwartz, and come across the floor piano, and stop and play a couple of songs. This got me to thinking that there might be more videos of people playing this floor piano. I went to YouTube and found the following videos. I was amazed at what they can play with their feet when I can barely play these songs with my hands.
I realize that some of the songs are repeated but I was just floored watching these.

(Mis) Adventures in Cooking
I've never professed to be a great cook, but find that I can muster through the basics.
Over the past couple years I've made some pretty bigs boo-boos though.
The first mistake I can remember making while cooking was the first time I made chocolate chip cookies. They came out flat as could be. Mom and I figured that she accidentally told me the wrong conversion for tsp to mL and I ended up putting too much baking powder in the dough.
The next mistake (that I admit to making twice) that I can remember was putting a pot on the stove to boil for pasta, and walking away and forgetting about until I started to smell something burning. Ended up boiling the pot dry. The first time, I remember frantically phoning Mom at work to see if I could salvage the pot in any way, but sadly, it wasn't salvageable. The second time, I could tell right away the pot was a goner.
Recently, I put a pot of rice on the stove to come to a boil before turning it down. Once again, walked away and ended up forgetting about it, till my sister knocked on my bedroom door and said that my rice was boiling. When I went to the stove, it wasn't boiling. There was no water left for it to boil. I almost "toasted" another pot, but luckily, this one was caught just in "nick of time"
